About Us

Textured Geometric Los Angeles, California Sticker

SeeCing A Path Forward For Diabetes (SCD) was founded in January 2023 by a few freshmen college students from The University of Southern California. Realizing USC did not have an undergraduate diabetes organization, this organization was established.

According to the 2015 Los Angeles County Health Survey, an estimated 758,000 LA County adults (9.8%) have been diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetic First-Aid is something many do not know how to perform, nor is it taught in schools, though most diabetics experience hypoglycemia 2 times per week, which can result in comas.

The purpose of this organization is to, therefore, raise awareness about diabetes, promote the treatment of diabetes, and prevent the onset of diabetes in the Los Angeles area. This will be accomplished through SCD members and community members engaging in guest-speaker events, as well as SCD members engaging in charity work and local diabetes community events, and creating social media posts. The purpose of this organization is also to educate others on how to administer hypoglycemia (and hyperglycemia) first-aid. This will be accomplished through SCD members and community members attending educational workshops, and SCD members creating social media posts.
